Experienced Resident Engineer / Construction Manager

MCK provides Construction Management and Inspection services on a number of projects in San Francisco Bay Area for public agencies. Specifically MCK is looking for an inspector for water/wastewater projects so experience in that project scope is preferred but all project sectors welcome.

Job Description:

Candidates should have experience as Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, Project Manager, Office Engineer or related role providing services for aviation projects at an operating airport or other complex ground up vertical construction projects with interior build out as well as Civil and Structural elements requiring stakeholder engagement, detailed coordination and phasing efforts. Experience as a Superintendent, Field Engineer, Project Engineer or other Field Operations Management roles from the General Contractor’s side is also highly valued. 

 

Candidates must demonstrate a first-rate work ethic, strong attention to detail, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, must have great communication skills and be capable of presenting information to the Client and other groups in various meetings. Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Managing the project construction contracts as the Client representative.

  • Administering the construction contract.

  • Implementing quality plans to assure all construction work is completed in conformance to the Contract Documents.

  • Oversee and enforce any construction related environmental compliance and procedures such as Contractor maintained SWPPP plans or Air Quality requirements.

  • Manage and track schedules, critical path and project costs; such as monthly schedule Pay Application submissions and advise on merit for change orders or differing site conditions.

  • Maintain all construction documentation and records.

  • Be the prime point of contact between the Contractor, the Client and external stakeholders.

  • Oversee the performance of the Contractor to ensure the successful delivery of the project and conformance of established processes, policies and procedures..

  • Coordination of Third-Party special inspections and tracking of any non-conformances.

  • Coordination with AHJ to ensure code required inspections are completed to ensure permit signoffs and Temporary or Final Certificates of Occupancy are obtained per schedule. 

  • Participate and lead advanced phasing and construction planning efforts with Contractor and Airport representatives to ensure airport operations, impacts to stakeholders and customer experience are considered and coordinated for approval in advance of construction. 

  • Report out progress and advise on risk to clients. 

  • Various other responsibilities applicable to the project.

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.

General Requirements/Qualifications

  • 5+ years providing construction management services for complex projects or programs including ground up vertical construction projects, and/or aviation projects particularly in lead role /Resident Engineer OR 10+ years as Assistant Resident Engineer / Office Engineer/ Field Engineer/ Project Engineer/ Superintendent or other Field Operations role. 

  • Vertical construction and interior buildout experience preferred.

  • Civil, Utility Relocation, Sub-grade and building structure experience a plus. 

  • Ability to perform stakeholder coordination, schedule tracking, reporting on progress required. 

  • Past experience working for a General Contractor is preferred.

  • Experience with Design-Build and other Alternative Delivery Methods are preferred. 

  • A baccalaureate degree in Construction Management, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution is preferred.

  • 3+ years using CM software, Unifier is a plus. 

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California is preferred 

  • Certification as a Certified Construction Manager and/or Project Management Professional is a plus.
