Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit Project

MCK has held an on-call contract with San Francisco Department of Public Works and San Francisco Public Utilities Commission for the last five years. Between the two agencies they cover all water, wastewater, roadway, sewer and pipeline projects inside San Francisco and its outside territories. MCK has performed CM Services on multiple SFPUC’s Sewer System Improvement Projects (SSIP), which is a citywide program to upgrade aging combined sewer system infrastructure to ensure reliable sustainable and seismically safe sewer system for the future but most applicable to this pursuit from these contracts was the Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit Project which brings the city its first Bus Rapid Transit. Scope of the project included repaving Van Ness Avenue, enhanced traffic signals, hardware and software, new transit vehicles, dedicated transit-only lanes, sidewalk extensions, crosswalk enhancements, overhaul of emergency fire fighting system that provides water to hundreds of fire hydrants, an electrical duct bank and streetlight/pole replacement. The project also included replacing more than 22,000 ft of 150 year old water main and upgrades to the underground sewer system. MCK provided inspection services during the tenure of this project.
