Treasure Island Water Resource Recovery Facility
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission
San Francisco, CA
MCK is providing CM Staff Augmentation Services including Pre-Construction Services, Construction Contract Administration, Inspection, Contracts Management, Project Controls, and as-needed Construction Management Services for the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant on Treasure Island. This Design-Build project will serve residents and businesses on the island as part of a bigger picture, the Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island Development Project. The project is a key piece of infrastructure to enable the city to add restaurants, shops, and living space for thousands of new residents on the island.
The new plant will have the capacity to treat an estimated 1.3 mgd average dry-weather flow and a peak wet-weather flow of 3.9 mgd. The secondary treatment process will use a membrane bioreactor to remove biochemical oxygen demand and suspended solids. Disinfected secondary-treated effluent will pass through wastewater wetlands to further reduce pollutants, and then be discharged
into the adjacent stormwater outfall pipe for discharge to San Francisco Bay. Solids generated in the treatment processes will be thickened and hauled to the SFPUC’s Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant for digestion. The project is designed to produce minimal wastewater discharge with the goal to reuse disinfected recycled water on the island for lawns, landscaping, and community parks. The project also includes the construction of 13 new buildings and facilities on the 9-acre site.
